Holiday Lights Limo Tours in Houston: A Planning Guide
How to plan a chauffeured holiday lights night in Houston: River Oaks, the Heights, Candy Cane Lane in Missouri City and Zoo Lights, with timing, vehicles and how long to book.

Houston’s holiday lights are spread out, from River Oaks and the Heights inside the Loop to Candy Cane Lane in Missouri City, with ticketed shows like Zoo Lights in between. When you drive yourself, one person watches the traffic on 610 while everyone else watches the lights. With a chauffeur, everyone gets to look.
River Oaks
River Oaks is the classic Houston lights drive: large homes, large displays, and streets you can loop slowly in a car. It is inside the Loop, a few minutes from Uptown and downtown, which makes it an easy first stop.
The Heights
The Heights is home to Lights in the Heights, and its bungalow streets are best seen on foot. Your chauffeur can drop you at one end of a decorated street and meet you at the other, then take you on to dinner on 19th Street. Check this year’s date for Lights in the Heights before you pick a night.
Candy Cane Lane, Missouri City
Candy Cane Lane is a street in the Quail Valley neighborhood of Missouri City, southwest of Houston, that has decorated for decades. It is free, and the loop is short — about a quarter of a mile. Local guides put the busiest times at 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on weekends, and parking nearby is limited, which is one more reason to be dropped off rather than park.
Zoo Lights at the Houston Zoo
Zoo Lights is a ticketed walk-through at the Houston Zoo in Hermann Park. In 2025 it ran from November 21 to January 4, 5:30 to 10:30 p.m., with last entry at 9:30, and tickets were sold online only — not at the gate. Buy tickets first, then book the car around them: your chauffeur drops you at the entrance and waits.
Further out
Prestonwood Forest’s Nite of Lites, which Fox 26 listed in its 47th year in 2025, and the Festival of Lights at Moody Gardens in Galveston, about an hour from Houston, make for longer evenings. Check each one’s dates for this year before you book.
Plan the route
River Oaks and the Heights are both inside the Loop and pair easily in one evening, and Zoo Lights in Hermann Park is close by. Candy Cane Lane is out in Fort Bend County, so pair it with dinner in Sugar Land rather than with the Heights.
How long to book
- One neighborhood, or Zoo Lights: 3 hours, our minimum on most vehicles.
- River Oaks and the Heights, with dinner: allow four to five hours.
- Candy Cane Lane from central Houston, with dinner: four hours or more.
On an hourly booking you can change the order or add a stop within your booked time.
Which vehicle for your group
- 1–3 people: an executive sedan, or the Rolls-Royce Ghost for an anniversary night.
- 1–6 people: an executive SUV. Tell us the children’s ages when you book and we will arrange child seats.
- 8–10 people: a stretch limousine.
- 7–14 people: a Sprinter limo, which handles narrow residential streets far better than a bus.
- 15 or more: a party bus. On streets like the Heights and Candy Cane Lane, plan to walk the best stretch while the bus waits nearby.
When to book
December Fridays and Saturdays are the busiest nights for lights and for holiday parties, so vehicles go quickly. Book in November for a December weekend. Weeknights are easier on both counts.
Timing tips
- The sun sets between about 5:20 and 5:35 p.m. in Houston in December, so a 5:30 or 6 p.m. pickup gets you to the first stop after dark.
- Go early or on a weeknight, especially for Candy Cane Lane.
- Eat first, or book dinner between stops, so nobody is hungry in traffic.
- Check every date for this year. Neighborhood displays depend on the residents, and ticketed shows set their own seasons.
Drinks and children
Adults 21 and over may bring their own drinks on chartered vehicles where Texas law allows. If anyone under 21 is aboard — on a family lights night, that is most of the time — the trip is alcohol-free for everyone, with no exceptions.
See our nights out service and Houston limo service, then send your date, group size and stops through the booking form for a written quote. Planning in North Texas instead? Read our Dallas–Fort Worth lights guide.
Tip. Book the car after you have event tickets, not before. Zoo Lights sells online only, and the time on your tickets sets the whole evening.
